Karen Baker  CPS, PSA, PSTB

“The most exciting aspect of the painting experience is the creative process itself:  that spontaneous flow of energy working through the artist, condensed into form.  Each one of my paintings is a momentary pause in the ongoing expression of who I am…”

Karen has been a professional artist and instructor for over 35 years.  In 2005, she moved to Florida from southern Vermont, where she owned and operated a gallery, conducted art workshops, and worked as a freelance journalist-editor.  Throughout her career, her artwork has gained recognition and won numerous awards from magazine competitions, as well as national and regional shows.  She is affiliated with many local art organizations and is a Signature member of Connecticut Pastel Society, Pastel Society of America, and Pastel Society of Tampa Bay. Her portfolio covers a range of subject matter including seasonal landscapes of northern New England, tropical scenics of the rural South, waterscapes, mixed-media abstracts, favorite florals and the prolific Poppy Field Series.  She is on faculty at Dunedin Fine Art Center and the Morean Arts Center in St Petersburg, where she offers courses in landscape painting and plein air.  She maintains a year-round art studio at Stirling Art Studios & Gallery, an artists’ collective in Dunedin village, where she is co-president.
